Sir Arthur C.Clarke passed away.

Sir Arthur C.Clarke passed away on March 19.
I would like to report that Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of Japan has sent the following condolence message to the Arthur C. Clarke Foundation.

Saori Kumi, Executive Secretary of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of Japan

We are deeply shocked at the sadness of Sir Arthur C. Clarke's demise. Although he was at the age of 90, he enthusiastically created a lot of works in recent years like collaboration with Mr. Stephen Baxter. We wished him to live long more.

Sir Arthur's wonderful works have created a lot of S-F fans in Japan. Especially, 2001:A Space Odyssey and Childhood's End gave great influence to the creators in a lot of fields not just to S-F writers, but also Manga Artists, Animators, and Illustrators. He had also given us an honorable touchstone for what true philosophizing supposed to be.

We would like to express our deepest condolence, and profound admiration and appreciation to Sir Arthur C. Clarke.

Haruka Takachiho, President of Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of Japan

Translated by Kunikazu Kimura
